15 tons, whadda get? Actually only 10 tons
When we moved into our house, the front yard came unfinished. They gave us so many days to finish it. Well, bought plants and had them put it. I read and read and finally learned enough to put in the irrigation. So, we had growing plants - in dirt. Here in Phoenix, there is lots of sun. And heat. And plants love sun - ya know, photosynthesis? However, with an average humidity of 10 percent, water evaporated very rapidly. So, most people - instead of plant grass - just cover there yards in rocks. Rocks, because it does not blow around in the wind.
Since I did the irrigation, I was ready to tackle the rocks. I got a quick estimate of 10 tons needed. I got on the phone, and ordered it. Less than $400. On the day we expected it, I heard the truck drive up. I was expecting a regular size dump truck. Well, when I saw THIS truck pull up, scared the hell out of me, cause I figured I would finish in less than a week. They dumped it right in the street - I knew the neighborhood would not like all of these rocks sitting in the street!
Instead of using a wheelbarrow, I used a large plastic storage bin that I strapped to a dolly - twin wheel so it would not tip over. Shovel, shovel, shovel. Push, push, push. DUMP. Spread. Repeat - for 3 days, and you eventually get the "after" picture.
