Desktop is back online!
Just a little boring blog today.
My desktop computer is back online! It's only been 6 months since it last seen daylight. Bunches of stupid motherboards (ECS and Gigabyte) and dying cpu's (478 pin intel 3.06 ghz,) has separated my from my desktop "standard" computer. I say standard because I don't game and I don't run things that require the latest and greatest. I am not running 8 gigs of memory, only 512meg (with a recent bump to 1gig).
But alas, it was down since before Christmas, where I literally tried all kinds of transplants, resuscitations, defib's - you name it - to keep the system running. I changed motherboards, coolers, cpus, memory, video cards, sound cards - and I still had to place a "Time of Death" certificate on the toe-tag.
So, it sat on the shelf, till finances lined up to get a decent replacement. Meanwhile, a slower, smaller laptop took it's place as the "main" computer. Small hard drive, no games ports - just enough stuff to get by. For 6 months.
I friend turned me on to a AMD motherboard/CPU combo from NewEgg for $97 shipped. It is a 6150BK8MC board with 3400+ cpu. Built-in sound, video, etc.
After brushing the cobwebs off the old "case" of dead computer, and applying another attempt at transplanting, I finally was able to breathe some life back inside.
So, after 3 days of burn-in, it seems to be stable, and I've actually "used" it burn some DVD - just a test.
So far so good. Hope it stays this way for at least a year! Maybe then I'll get something better.
