Welcome to the thoughts and photos of FLYDDW. Texas, New Jersey, and Arizona living.
Photos - what I take and why
I read a post about photos. I like to take photos also. I am not an expert, nor am I an novice. I have taken lots of photos, so I get to refine my skillz a lot.
I've used the 110, polaroid, and 35mm. I have never used that stupid disc camera - the picture are just too grainy. I think I shot only one roll of 35mm B&W. I'd have to go back and looks thru the pictures.
I used to live in Houston, TX, wear 95% of my family still lives. When I took photos, they could see them (if they cared) just by visiting or me taking the pix to them. During that time, I visited CA, LA, San Antonio (or SA to keep with the 'A' places), where I took photos. BUT, I returned to Houston.
For a while, I lived in Austin, TX - my college years. Now, my photos were 180 miles from my family, and that prevented them from being seen. Now, I have to mail copies to them, or make sure to bring them when I visited.
This was partially solved by the internet and web pages. Now, I could scan in the photos, post them on the web, and send a link to their email. Scanning was time consuming, but worth it. Now I could do editing - cropping, color correction, etc.
Then came my digital phase. A digital camera is fantastic! Take a picture, see it immediately. You know exactly what you are getting. My first camera was low-def (although quite expensive). 1024x768 was it's max (1.2 MP), and they ran about 70-120kbytes per picture. Now cellphone blow that away!
But, due to their size, Not much cropping was needed - take the picture, post it on the web. The camera I have NOW is an 8MP one. These pix are 3000 kbytes! Nobody is gonna wait on a dial-up connection for bunches of these to come down!
The 8MP has advantages
- you can crop the hell out of them! See something interesting in the corner? crop that part out and blow it up!
- by reducing the picture to smaller size, you can sometime remove blurriness.
Disadvantages?
- too big as size of storage. Can't fill a webpage with 3200x2800 pictures. Nobody has that big of screen to see the whole thing.
- a bitch to edit - what to save? what to throw away?
- takes up so much room on the mem card.
